About Us

The Woodworking in America: Hand Tools and Techniques Conference is presented by Popular Woodworking and Woodworking Magazine.

Like these publications, the Woodworking in America Conference provides expert techniques and step-by-step instruction for woodworkers of all skill levels. The event will help hundreds of woodworkers jumpstart their hand-tool skills, expose them to tools they’ve seen only in catalogs and offer face-to-face instruction with some of the best hand-tool woodworkers working today.

Plus, many of the country’s large and small manufacturers of well-made hand tools will be in attendance—everyone from the large companies that make high-quality tools down to the individual makers who build high-end, individually designed handplanes. As a result, you’ll be able to try a wide variety of tools before you make that once-in-a-lifetime purchase. But trying and buying tools is only one small part of the Conference.

At this year’s event, you’ll attend hands-on workshops, interactive sessions and insightful demonstrations to help you use a variety of hand tools—both vintage and modern. The workshops will cover topics that range from basic sharpening and sawing to marquetry and advanced joinery.

And all this will be held on the beautiful campus of Berea College in the foothills of Kentucky. Space is extremely limited at the Conference, so you will have the richest and most rewarding hand-tool experience possible.
